The Indiana Anthology: Beginnings
Updated: Jul 16

When you’re born and raised in Indiana, you have to make your own fun. As you might expect, there aren't a lot of exciting things to do around here. Whether it was using playground equipment to make an imaginary film set, going to Walmart at midnight or even creating fictitious worlds with words, I had to get creative when it came to having fun.
I have always loved to write. It always came naturally to me and it’s been quite a constant in my life.
When I was 10, I started a neighborhood newspaper. Basically, I would take a notebook and a pencil and walk around to all of my neighbors’ houses and ask them about what was happening in their lives. Then, I would go home and write about it. Every Saturday for two or three years, I hand delivered it! At the end, it always included a riddle to solve. Funnily enough, I wrote it in Comic Sans…
In college, I minored in journalism and was able to create some really wonderful pieces for publications, not just at school. I was featured in the Herald Bulletin during the pandemic, I wrote a blog for the PRSA website and even expanded into audio storytelling.
But, something was missing. I had always wanted to be able to call myself an author. I remember buying book sized notebooks and trying to write books all the time.
When I was 23, I got the idea to take one of my favorite genres and mix it with something that really mattered to me. That is how High Stick was born! I’ve always been an avid hockey fan, so it was only inevitable that I would end up writing a hockey romance book. As someone who has dealt with pelvic floor dysfunction, I have never been able to see myself in a main character. So, I took my trauma and created a character I could relate to inside and out.
Eventually, I will be branching out into other genres including literary and mystery/thriller, which I consider to be my comfort genres.
In February of 2026, I was attending one of my very early author events and happened to meet Beth (aka E.D Rich). We hit it off instantly, and vowed to work together again in the future.
Flash forward to June, we have partnered to create The Indiana Anthology. The idea came about when we noticed some of our favorite independent bookstores struggling.
I have always been passionate about elevating other people’s talent and highlighting their work. With this organization, writers will be able to submit their short stories for our panel of judges for state-wide exposure and a chance to have their work featured in the book!
With this project, it is our hope that we are able to connect with other creatives and provide a plethora of future opportunities for them.
Beth and I have put our hearts and souls into this project and we hope you are as excited as we are about it!
